1817 Matthew Wood, twice Lord Mayor of London, 1816-1817 white metal medal by T Halliday for Sir E Thomason, trial or proof striking of the obverse only, bust right with chain of office, 54mm, good very fine. ** Three Irishmen, Quinn, Riorton & Connolly had been caught forging shillings & bank tokens. When they were brought to trial it transpired that those making the accusation, Thomas Brock, John Pelham & Michael Power were the guilty ones. These three were tried & duly deported, meanwhile the Irishmen were pardoned & the Lord Mayor established a fund that enabled them to return to Ireland & purchase small farms.
