 Air Mail
Used (on letter or envelope)
1899-1940 German Zeppelin mail + other Aviation areas, splendid collection of covers & cards plus some early vignettes, cultivated over a long period presented & written up in three Senator standard albums + fine range of Zeppelin orientated cards on stock leaves. Terrific range of material from 1899 - Bavarian private postal stationary card illustrated with early Balloon in Flight, 1908 official card posted 'Mannheim' announcing the arrival of the Zeppelin LZ4 over the town, novelty card dated 1908 featuring opening Zeppelin hanger doors (crash scene on the reverse) - this card needs careful handling. Other items noticed incl. 1912 Rhein & main flight cards with semi-official Airs with the scarce LZ10 Schwaben Gelber Hund flight, 1913 'Victoria' Zeppelin illustrated card with 'on board' cancel, 1914 very scarce private postal stationary card MI.PP27/221 promoting the 'Dresden-Leipzig-Dresden' pioneer flight card has the special flight cancel. There are other internal flight covers of the 1920-30's + range of vignettes with Zeppelin Airmail connections. There is an impressive range of Catapult flight covers with eye catching postal markings/cachets, many more Zeppelin flights through the 20's-30's through to the IIIrd Reich period. Scarcer flights with high value 'Reichmark' Zeppelin stamps (note some very clever forged covers with Nazi Party Rally cancels - all noted). There are internal, Olympic & Propaganda flights ending with a good range of illustrated Zeppelin PPC's with Propaganda, crash scenes, Count Zeppelin portrait cards. This is a 'must see' collection to really appreciate, an excellent basis for expansion. (220 covers/cards + 29 vignettes/semi-official Airs) £5000.00 N/S
