QUEEN VICTORIA BOOKS being five volume set of 'The Life of His Royal Highness - The Prince Consort' by Theodore Martin, Pub. Smith & Elder Co, London 1875 Vol I First Edition, 1876 Vol II Second Edition, 1877 Vol III First Edition, 1879 Vol IV First Edition & Vol V First Edition - each individually SIGNED & INSCRIBED BY QUEEN VICTORIA at front endpapers, 'To Viscount Torrington, In recollection of the beloved Prince from Victoria R.I' or similar and each is dated by the Queen in her hand. Also a loosely inserted letter by Jane Ely from Windsor Castle dated 27th Nov 1876 to Lord Torrington (hastily sending the books on the orders of the Queen). Torrington's book plate at the front of each volume, inner hinges splitting and some damp staining plus a few other minor faults. The first two volumes with small circular stickers affixed at the edges - not affecting the text or signatures. Generally good to fine. KGVI (1895-1972) George R.I signed as King, at the head, two signed partially printed document being a remission addressed to the Governor of Wormwood Scrubs & relates to Alexander Thomas Brown, convicted of an offence against the National Service Act of 1941 & sentenced to twelve months imprisonment, pardoning him of the remainder of his sentence, countersigned at the conclusion by Herbert Morrison (1888-1965 Home Secretary) with embossed blue paper, seal affixed. £100 to 150 £100.00
