1840 (5 Jan) wrapper to the Paymaster General in Chelsea bearing a good strike of Carlisle hand struck '4' in black, with a faint strike of despatch c.d.s. on reverse. The 4d charge was cancelled on arrival in London & crowned Free applied on 6th January & manuscript 'Official, G Lille, Paym. Genl. Whitehall' with two different London b/stamps for the following day. This is believed to be the only surviving hand struck '4' used in combination with Free d/stamp. £500 to 600 £1100.00
