A set of plates generally with good to large margins with Pl.1a AB - light crease, Pl.1b JK - horizontal crease, Pl.2 SJ, Pl.3 FD - fine cancellation, Pl.4 AC - thin, Pl.5 HF, Pl.6 AL - faults, Pl.7 ED, Pl.8 EF, Pl.9 SA - just cut into, Pl.10 IB and Pl.11 GI - cut into left side. FIRST SUNDAY IN MAY Pl.1a QF in a deep black shade, tied to 1840 (10 May) wrapper to London, good to very large margins and tied by a double strike of bright red MC. The reverse with faint Coventry 'MY10/1840' despatch d/stamp & London arrival (11 MY). There is a heavy vertical filing crease, tear at top and light soiling, the adhesive has tiny abrasion at edge of upper right corner star. Nevertheless an appealing cover from the rare first Sunday in May. Cat. £65,000. Ex Nissen May Dates Page 125. £3000 to 3500 £3000.00
