1968 6d PRE-DECIMAL MACHIN DEFINITIVE - A specialised research study. A closer study of the 6d value was prompted by the discovery of a small Post Office file comprising blocks & singles of this value which had originally been in the records of the late Aubrey Walker (Chief Quantity Control Engineer) at the Post Office in the 1960's & 70's when the Machin series was introduced. The stamps were accompanied by very limited information but the material appeared to have been the subject on an examination of ink fluorescence, phosphorescence and possible fugivity of the inks used which were of British & German origin. This lot illustrates some of the material found in the box & describes the work undertaken in studying the stamps & conclusions drawn. Including colour charts showing shades of purple & annotated British inks/These are fluorescent and German inks/Do not fluoresce, ink & fluorescent comparisons, shades, ink stability tests of British & German ink etc. Highly specialised & unusual lot. Viewing recommended. £800 to 1000 £920.00
