1865-85 Stamps of India tied to piece by Zanzibar cancels, comprising 1865 India 1a & 1873 ½a together tied by Type Z2 duplex (SG.Z11 & Z16), 2a brown-orange in combination with ½a blue, tied by fine strikes of Type Z3 duplex (SG.Z26 & Z29), 1882-83 3a orange, tied by fine bold part strike of Z3 duplex (SG.Z34), 1885 & 1886 pieces franked respectively with 1a.6p & 3a (corner fault), other piece 1a & 8a each with fine complete strikes of Type Z4 Zanzibar squared circle, the second piece also with light violet senders 'chop' (SG.Z47/8, 250/3). £80 to 100 £80.00

1876 12a venetian red, cancelled by a VF nearly complete Z5 squared circle dated OC.23.89' (SG.Z61), 1892-90 9p aniline carmine, cancelled by fine upright strike of Z5 squared circle dated 'MY.19'94' (SG.Z63), 1876 6a pale brown with VF large part strike of Type Z7 c.d.s. with 'I' of 'ZANZIBAR' complete & considered to be the first day of use (SG.Z95). 1893 (Aug 5th) cover to Wiesbaden, Germany with printed heading 'DEUTSCHE OST-AFRIKA-LINIE, AGENTUR IN ZANZIBAR' and endorsed 'pr S.S Kilwa via Aden,' franked at UPU rate by India 1882-90 ½a blue-green & 1a brown-purple horizontal pair, tied by three very fine strikes of Type Z5 squared circle (three bars at corners) with exceptional 'LIGNE N/PAQ.FR No. 1' octagonal French ship d/stamp alongside (15 AOUT 93). Back stamps of Aden (AUG 15 93) and Wiesbaden (29.8.93). Small cover faults (vertical fold) but really fine & striking usage, carried by German ship to Aden, thence by French ship (S.S Caledonien) to Marseilles for onward transmission by rail. £100 to 150 £170.00

1897 (July 3rd) printed official cover with bold 'ON POSTAL SERVICE' heading and 'Postmaster General/British East Africa & Zanzibar/ZANZIBAR' imprint at lower left, used registered to Denver, Colorado, franked at 4a6p (2a6p postage + 2a registration) by 1896 (Dec) 2a red-brown & 2½a bright blue, tied by individual strikes of small 'REG' c.d.s. and by London transit d/stamp (July 2nd) with 'R' in circle registration h/stamp & U.S reg numbers on face. Back stamps of New York '7-10-1897' and Denver (July 13th), the latter in violet. Vertical cover folds but a very scarce & dramatic usage. SG.159/60. £60 to 80 £82.00
