1849 letter to England headed Partridge Crop, Hudsons Bay July 13th 1849. A SHIP LETTER (Bristol) h/stamp and Fairford & Farringdon d/stamps are on the letter with a m/s '8', the British Ship Letter rate. The writer, Abraham Cowley was admitted to the Church Missionary Society College in 1839, in 1842 he established a mission at Partridge Crop, now Fairford, Manitoba, where a church and school were built. He left there in 1854. Interesting contents from what would have been a very small settlement in northern Canada.
