For the first year of their five year training to be pilots, students at the Italian Airforce Academy were known as Pinguinos (Penguins), i.e. flightless birds. All cards show penguins and were designed by students. Also four unused postcards showing students dressed up as penguins at a carnival in Alassio.

Also 1909 card 'GLÜCKLICHES NEUJAHR' issued to celebrate Peary’s success showing polar bears and very strange penguins greeting Peary and his men with a glass and bottles of champagne while a bearded seal looks on.
