1840 2nd May Mulready One Penny Letter Sheet Stereo removed, addressed to Bromley, bearing a fine strike of 'Portugal St.1py P.Paid' in black & a clear d/stamp 'P.D/MY 2/1840' with a superb strike on reverse of the shield type MY 2/1840 h/stamp in red (central vertical crease & some light soiling). 1841 Penny Red imperf AH Plate 35 (missing imprimatur) fine with good to large margins cancelled and well tied by a large part fine clear strike of the London No 12 in Maltese Cross on a neatly addressed single sheet entire letter sent 23rd February 1844 to Ironbridge (despatch c.d.s and receiving town datestamp on the reverse and front respectively). The cover has been slightly refolded for display and has some minor peripheral archivally reinforced opening faults, a closed filing spike hole and a light vertical filing crease well clear of the adhesive, otherwise fine and attractive. Single frankings cancelled by the No 12 in Maltese Cross are very scarce. Cat. £1400
